Re: Lilypad MP3 Sparkfun with VS1053B

Your board is an Arduino variation with a VLSI decoder chip on it. The ino file is a program for the Arduino microcontroller, which has nothing to do with VLSI Solutions. It’s a program for the Arduino to talk to this VLSI chip. These guys here can’t be expected to know about everything that could p...

Re: Not connected pins

It looks like my pic has exceeded bandwidth limit :(

It’s VS1003b.

Open source MP3, GPS, and more..

Hi :) Here’s the software side of an open source (vs1003b) MP3 player with bells & whistles, and vector mapping GPS, Dynamic Calendar, Talking Astronomy clock, and Tetris clone: https://sourceforge.net/projects/freedom-platform/ A PCB design is also on it’s way. I have built two of these under camer...

Re: Not connected pins

Maybe you guys remember the last one. This will be harder, with less control of what goes where, and no split ground plane for analogue for this one. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CP4iNemOPOdMslewlS2s5yjUAXomiRMl0b423nBS2TQJ_fjlcZmJqrLgELt3_yHNYpkLJTl8e4tJ1LXBtYnoqe1mMK8mmcSAlEclH8MNvwvD8Ro7wZuU...

Not connected pins

Hello :) I just wanted to be sure that pins marked as not connected actually go nowhere. It appears I’ve shorted one of them to a GPIO pin which will get tied to ground via a resistor. Maybe the data sheet says not connected, but it turns out to be some factory test pin or something and can’t be con...

Re: Seed for Shuffle function

I didn’t want to sample the ADC there, probably because I don’t have a hardware reset if anything goes wrong. My player only allows MP3 files, and needing to reset the chip, even only the software reset mode bit has not been needed. I thought I’d test a function to read some samples of the audio noi...

Re: Retrieving stereo levels?

Well that was interesting :) Due to inherent LCD lag, anything remotely accurate with speed leaves ghosting on the screen, so you can see more than one needle. In the second example, after I push the button to change mode, I’m trying some hack physics for the meter spring, but then loses accuracy. I...

Re: Retrieving stereo levels?

I’m confident I’ll get a convincing pair of analogue meters out of it :) Needs work, but I think I can get it cheap. The byte value can be cast to float, then halved, and I think that result can translate to degrees angle of rotation, since a meter doesn’t cover a whole semicircle. And the spring pa...

Re: Retrieving stereo levels?

Hi Henrik, Thanks for the reply :) Yes, Like a pair of old analogue VU meters. Maybe a trivial thing, but I am likely to make a go of it, and share any result. Last night I discovered the DAC registers in the datasheet. I do think I generally get the idea, thanks! level = abs((s_int16)(ReadRegister(...

Retrieving stereo levels?

Hi Guys :) Funny that I should be motivated to do more with this. I was wondering if there’s any register or RAM that could be read from vs1003b that would indicate (generally, if not with accurate measurement) the audio level of each of the L & R channels? I know you could take the mean of all of t...
