Line out producing low voltage peak to peak

Post by boomacoh »

Good day guys
I have this shield from sparksfun whish using vs1053 to an arduino.
I was able test with an osci that its line out signal on both L and R with respect its gnd is +160mv down to -8mv. So when I would connect a speaker to it, it would only produce a sound hearable but weak. How can increase it so my speaker can produce a louder sound

Here is the link of the shield.
https://www.elecrow.com/wiki/index.php? ... MP3_Shield
Will I be able to increase the output peak to peak of my VS1053 shield so that I can also increase the volume of my external speaker

The whole project will be powered by my 3.7Lipo battery. So the external speakers would also be powered from the same source of my vs1053 and arduino. When I would do that, it doesnt produce a clear sound. What can I do to make it much clearer?

Thank you!

What kind of speaker is it? What is the impedance of the speaker?

VS10xx chips can drive 30-Ohm headphones pretty well, but lower impedances become increasingly difficult to drive. Also, how much sound pressure is produced is dependent on the speaker sensitivity.

Driving a speaker instead of headphones could thus require an additional (D-class) amplifier. See for example the Simple DSP Host board schematics from http://www.vlsi.fi/en/support/evaluatio ... board.html .

Edit: Do you mean the speakers contain an amplifier?

VS1053/vs1063 should produce over 720mVrms (2050mVpp) at its outputs. Check that
1) the volume control is at full (SCI_VOL = 0)
2) the audio file you are playing is using the whole coding range
